Our Committee

The committee currently comprises 5 members, all of whom fly actively as well as being involved in organisation and decision making. Active commitment to the promotion and success of the club is not limited to this small group, and input from any of our members is welcome.

 

David Barnes

David Barnes
Chairman

David started flying in 1999 at the GHFC and has a PPL with Night rating. He parted company with his beloved Cessna 172 ZS-CML and is currently between planes. David works for a yacht repair company called Action Yachting and enjoys flying, sailing and cycling in his spare time. Unfortunately he doesn't have a Harley, a comm licence or a wine farm, but manages to get by.

Martin started flying at the Cape Aero Club and shortly after attaining his PPL in 1973 took a brief sabbatical from flying until 2006.

 

Calle Hedberg

Calle is a Norwegian computer scientist, working with a global South-South-North R&D programme that is developing and implementing Free and Open Source Health Information Systems in many countries in Africa and Asia. He's been flying since 2005 and recently got his CPL/IF and a Ravin 500 aircraft (the notorious "Troll Air"). This scandihooligan is also a self-confessed adrenaline-junkie who enjoys river rafting, crawling up onto mountain tops, and low-level air racing. Avcommer ...

Rafi started flying with Good Hope Flying Club in early 2002. He is married to Debbie and they have two boys, Benji and Robbie. Rafi also has an adopted child named ZS-PMY. During the week he is in partnership in a busy legal practice in Cape Town but manages to squeeze in time for all his other interests and hobbies which include flying, playing cards and maintaining Classic MG's.

 

Alexia Michaelides

Alexia started flying in 2001 and is a past chairperson of the club. She is also the Flight Coordinator for the Organ Donor Foundation and coordinates organ transplants for her day job. She loves flying, talking about flying, and hanging around the flying club on a Saturday morning, indulging her weakness for chocolate croissants.

 

Charles Dickinson

Charles Dickinson
Trustee

Charles is a past treasurer of the club. Between flights in his Cessna 172 he farms fruit for export.
